What ages is camp open to?

Camp Shalom is open to preschool aged children (3-5) who are entering kindergarten in fall of 2021 or 2022. Campers must be 4 by September 1, 2021 and must not have not completed their first year of kindergarten.

Where is Camp Shalom located?

Camp Shalom is located at North Suburban Church in Deerfield, IL. Due to COVID-19 precautions, a significant portion of camp will take place in the outdoor space on our property. For some activities, and in cases of inclement weather, we will also access our indoor facilities, including our preschool classrooms and indoor gym.

Can we see the camp location before we decide?

Of course! If you are interested in a tour of the facility, please contact us at jeclov.northsub@gmail.com and we can arrange a time for you to come by!

Where do campers come from?

Campers come from all over the North Shore and from different faith communities and backgrounds.

Can campers register for one week at a time?

Due to COVID-19 and the need to lessen exposure, we are not allowing campers to register for one week at a time. These sessions will be self-contained, so you can know your child will only be exposed to the kids in their particular session. We also believe that the 4-week session allows our teachers a chance to really connect with your child, and allows the children a chance to form friendships with one another.

Will masks be worn?

Based on current CDC recommendations, we will be requiring all campers and staff to wear masks indoors. Our goal is to have much of the camp experience take place outside. While outdoors, campers and staff will not be required to wear masks. Should the CDC change these recommendations, we will adjust accordingly.

My child is coming with a friend/sibling. Will they be together?

Yes! We currently are limiting our camp to 15 kids per session, so all kids attending will be together.

If we add a second class and increase our staff, we will honor all requests for friends or siblings to stay together.

What is the ratio of adults to campers?

Our adult to camper ratio is 1:5.

Will campers be eating at camp?

Campers will have the opportunity to eat a mid-morning snack. We ask that you send a simple snack with your camper in their backpack each day. If snacks are eaten inside, campers will be distanced at least 6 feet apart during eating.

What is the food allergy policy?

We ask that you please help us keep a nut-free snack environment to ensure the safety of all campers.

Is religion a significant aspect of Camp Shalom?

Camp Shalom is run by North Suburban Church and does share the same statement of faith (see here). The person of Jesus and the love and grace he shows are the foundation of all that we do at Camp Shalom. However, our campers and families come from many faith traditions. As such, while there will be a Bible lesson each week that teaches important moral values shared by many faiths (e.g. kindness, generosity, etc.), we work hard to make sure the space is welcoming to everyone.
