An Ascend workshop draws on those in the Scriptures who prayed to God, including Abraham, Eliezar, Jacob, Moses, Deborah, David, Hannah, Samson, Elijah, Nehemiah, Christ, Mary, Paul, and more. They speak to us across the centuries to show us how God wishes to be called upon. Our goal is to bring their voices to life in the service of prayer in our time.
The many prayers of the ancient believers fall into seven types. We cover each type in turn, treating them as stages on a mountain that rises up to God. As Moses hiked up Mt. Sinai into the presence of God, so we will traverse the stages to the top of the Ascend mountain and back again.
We will stop at each stage to raise our own prayers and put into practice what we have learned. The pace is brisk, but not difficult. No one will be asked to pray out loud. There will be frequent breaks and time for questions.
When you said to me, seek my face, my heart said to you, your face O God, I seek (Psalm 27:8).
